Why We Built OutScript: An Agency's Honest AI Scripting Take

We ran a content agency with 300+ clients and 1B+ views. Here's the wall we hit — and why we built OutScript instead of buying another AI writer.

If you scale a content agency past 5–6 employees, you hit a wall that no amount of process documentation fixes. We hit it at nine.

The wall

Every client wants short-form video. Every client has a different voice, different proof points, different audience, and different offers. To deliver good content, your team has to learn each client deeply — their stories, their differentiators, their objections, their previous winners. Then they have to research what's working in that client's niche. Then write a script. Then iterate.

At one client, that's six hours per video. At ten clients, that's sixty hours per week before anyone has filmed anything. You hire more people. You write more SOPs. You train the new hires. Three weeks later you realize the new hires still write generic-sounding content because there's no way to transfer the depth of knowledge a senior strategist holds in their head.

Why off-the-shelf AI didn't help

We tried every AI tool we could find. They all failed at the same wall in the same way:

  1. They write from a prompt, not from research. A prompt to ChatGPT can't replicate "the hook style that has won 12 of the last 20 viral reels in this niche." That's a pattern hidden in real performance data, not in the open web.
  2. They don't remember the brand. Every session starts fresh. Re-explaining a client's voice, offers, and objections takes 20 minutes before you can even generate something.
  3. They sound like AI. The cadence is wrong. The hooks are flat. The CTAs are templated. Anyone who's watched short-form for a year can tell instantly.

We didn't want another generic writer. We wanted what our senior strategists did, automated: continuous competitor research, deep brand memory, and scripts that adapted proven frameworks to each client's specific voice.

So we built it

OutScript was born inside the agency before it became a product. The first version was a janky internal tool — Python scripts pulling competitor data, Claude prompts assembled from JSON blobs, a Notion database of client voices.

Three things changed when we started using it on real client work:

  • Fulfillment cost per client dropped from $1,500 to $500. Less time on research, less time per script, less hand-holding for new hires.
  • Profit margins went from 25–30% to 65%. Same revenue, much lower cost.
  • What used to take the team 20+ hours of research per client per week now takes 10 minutes. Automated daily monitoring caught winners we'd have missed.

We started talking to other agency owners and creators about it. Every single one had hit the same wall. So we packaged the tool, hired engineers to rebuild it properly, and shipped OutScript publicly.

What it actually does

If you've read the homepage, skip this. If you haven't:

  1. You fill out a one-time intake. Niche, voice, proof points, 2–3 competitors. Takes 15–20 minutes.
  2. OutScript watches your competitors daily. Identifies winning hooks, topics, and frameworks.
  3. You pick an idea. OutScript generates a complete script in your voice in about 60 seconds.

That's it. No prompt engineering. No re-explaining your brand. No starting from zero.

What this blog is for

Going forward, we're going to write here about what we've learned looking at over a billion views of short-form video — what hooks actually win, what content patterns repeat across niches, what agencies and creators get right and wrong, and how to use AI without sounding like AI.

If you want to try OutScript on your own content, the 7-day free trial takes two minutes to start.

Otherwise, subscribe to the RSS — new posts land here regularly.
